The Lake Maggiore area, surrounded by mountains and hills, offers many hiking routes of various types and lenghts.

Hiking routes are situated in the Val Grande National Park, in the Alpe Veglia Regional Park and in the Oasi Faunistica of Macugnaga, at the base of the Monte Rosa Massif.

Also the shores of the Lake Maggiore host numerous paths in the Riserva Naturale of Verbania-Fondotoce, in the Lagoni National Park in Mercurago, and in the Riserva Naturale in Dormelletto. Worth a visit is the splendid Ticino Park, in the towns of Castelletto Ticino and Sesto Calende.

WWF guides of the Pian dei Sali protected area in the Vigezzo Valley, and the Bosco Tenso protected area in Premosello Chiovenda will show you local animal and plants beauties.

Finally, the routes of the Riserve Naturali Speciali del Sacro Monte - inscribed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO - in Domodossola, Ghiffa and Orta, as well as the Alpinia Botanical Garden offer a series of breathtaking views over Lake Maggiore.
